Don't Let the Old Man In

Yesterday was a bit hysterical as we had a massive to do list. It was all too much and every hour we were racing for time. We were looking for floor tile and I wanted to go to Tillicum but yesterday morning what we wanted was all sold out so we had to go all the way to Langford. Slept in a little bit yesterday which meant everything got done a little bit later. Earlier I had worked out with dumbbells, played Pickleball, Came home and the tendency was just to hatch but we had to go pick up the flooring which took longer then we anticipated. Then we added in the Superstore. Raced home to get sides ready for a  picnic at Butchart before volunteering at our local food bank.

My sister and I were ready to drop when we got to our picnic and man was that ever a nice moment to just wind down. The band playing was Dublin 2 and a song resonated with me called I think "Don't Let the Old Man In." Terry Boyle explained that when Clint Eastwood turned 93 he was filming a movie and when he was being interviewed, they asked how he does it and he responded: "Don't let the old man in." The song Dublin 2 performed was based on this story. It got me thinking because this has been my beef for awhile. I'm so sick of people living a limited belief about themselves. This is what I hear all the time from people" "Oh I can't walk well I'm getting old." "I can't turn my head I'm getting old." "I can't play pickleball because I might hurt myself and it's so dangerous." "I can't remember things I'm getting old."

Stop aging yourself before your time and stop putting yourself and your life in a box all the time. Jolly well live your life and turn that negativity around. Do I wake up tired and have tough days? You bet. Do I sometimes find myself letting the old woman in? Of course and I think its too easy to let in the excuses of why we can't do something. I'd like to rephrase this quote and say "Don't let the old thoughts in."

Be encouraging with yourself and give yourself grace but if you want to do something find a way to do it and don't let the old thoughts, negativity creep in.  Lets turn the negative thoughts into positivity. "I'm having a tough day and it's okay I'll get through it." "I can do this even if its hard." "I'm cranky this morning but this is what I am grateful for."  It takes work and effort but you can do what you want to accomplish somehow someway.

Don't let the old thoughts in.

Hugs,

Michelle
