It's All About That Chai

Not sure where my fascination with chai began but it's all around me these days. Years ago we started making soap & lip balm & candle called Tofino Morning Chai and last year we added on a coconut wax version of this heavenly blend. Thinking back I've always loved cinnamon spice so that's probably where the fascination took root. Then a few years ago I started loving ginger and there is even these divine tasting ginger candies I discovered at a home show and I've been hooked on them ever since.  Beyond just the taste of chai though there is emotional reaction to it.  When smelling or drinking it I feel cozy, warm and comfortable.  The spicy aroma lulls me into another space and the cares of the world seem to drift away.

Today I'm sharing a Chai Latte recipe.

You can make your own Chai spice using this recipe:

  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp ginger
  • 1/4 tsp cloves
  • 1 cup of milk or milk alternative (I love almond milk)
  • 1 tsp of coconut sugar, maple syrup or honey to taste

If your really short on time or don't feel like making the mix you can just use either loose leaf chai tea or you can purchase a chai tea powder blend at a health food store. If you are using the ground or loose leaf chai you can use a full coffee scoop and add 2 bags of tea to a small 2 cup teapot. Then I just heat almond milk on the stove and add to my tea when it's steeped.

Lately I've been making this drink quite regularly as it's been quite chilly in Victoria this year. If you try it pop in and let me know what you think of it.
